At sundown this evening, Muslims in Canada and around the world will mark the beginning of the month of Ramadan. All those observing Ramadan will embark on the month-long pursuit of holy fasting, prayer and personal reflection. The month of Ramadan is also an opportunity for us to reflect on the important contributions that Muslim Canadians have made to Canada.
This occasion serves as a time to appreciate the material comforts we are blessed with and to offer a helping hand to those who are less fortunate. Ramadan also reminds us of our shared responsibility to treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves. In a turbulent world where too many people suffer from conflict, violence and discrimination, this sacred time of fasting and prayer offers us an opportunity to reflect on our obligation, as humans, to pursue peace, justice and respect.
On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I would like to extend my best wishes to Muslims observing Ramadan in Canada and around the world.
